Konvergencie LIVE
Robert Roth in the triple role of the Devil, the Soldier and the Storyteller in Stravinsky’s timeless musical fairy tale for adults about the eternal struggle of good against evil, about love, about war and about how (not) to sell one’s soul. (live recording of performances from the Konvergencie/Stravinsky Festival 2019)
More about the title
The Soldier’s Tale was written in Swiss exile, where Stravinsky, a celebrated composing star, was stranded with his family during World War I. It was premiered in Lausanne in 1918. Based on the Russian fairy tale of the Soldier who serves the Devil in exchange for worldly goods, losing his loved ones in the process, the work can also be understood in the context of events in war-torn Europe that left indelible marks on human souls. The message of A Soldier’s Tale, however, is timeless and relevant even today. In his music, Stravinsky was inspired by a diverse mix of musical styles and genres.
The first complete Slovak recording of the work was made under the direction of violinist Igor Karšek and featured leading Slovak performers Juraj Griglák (double bass), Ronald Šebesta (clarinet), Peter Kajan (bassoon), Branislav Belorid (trombone), Peter Kosorín (percussion) and Hungarian trumpeter Zoltán Molnár.
